The World In A Whole New Dimension: Augmented Reality,Virtual Reality & Mixed Reality

What does it feel like being in Mars? Years ago, only Martians could answer this question. Today however, a guy seated on a couch and very much on Earth, can answer the same question.
Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality and Mixed Reality devices are soon going to be the very thing smart phones are today. Watch that space.

Yeah, yeah, I heard that. What is Augmented reality? Well in simple terms that would probably not go in an exam paper, this is the use of computer technology to develop a virtual world and integrate it with the real world. Virtual reality though closely related to the latter, is the use of computer technology to develop a complete virtual world. A user using a VR device is going to be completely immersed in an artificially created world. By being immersed I mean the feelings included.  An example of an augmented reality device is the Google Glass.

Augmented reality devices can be used to perform many activities such as learning or playing computer games. For example look at the picture of a person using the HoloLens to play Minecraft.

Notice how the virtual world integrates with the real world?

This brings us to Mixed Reality. The HoloLens device is actually better termed a mixed reality headset. In Mixed Reality, Augmented and Virtual Reality are all mixed. Meaning that a mixed reality headset actually has all the qualities of the other two. To bring my point in the light, virtual objects in MR seem real in the sense that they have real qualities like enlarging when one leans in closer to them e.t.c

    1. Mixed reality is a mixture of Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality. The HoloLens is actually better termed a Mixed Reality headset. The illusion in Mixed Reality headsets is way too advanced than in Augmented Reality headsets. Meaning virtual objects viewed look like real objects and have real characteristics like enlarging when one leans closer to them e.t.c Thumbs up!
